Radio for both FE and Sailing

I'm thinking about buying a decent radio and I'd like to use it for both FE and sailing. Problem is FE format really likes pistol grip for fast throttle inputs, whereas sailing likes a fixed throttle (no spring) input for use with sail position input.

Has anyone figured out a good way to use 1 radio for both applications? For example, I'm looking at the spektrum DX3S pistol radio for the FE-- has anyone tried removing the throttle spring so it stays in position?

You got it, just remove the spring! Make sure to keep the spring if you decide to sell the radio or other useage.

Thanks! I knew you could remove the spring from the 2-stick radios throttle, wasn't sure about the pistol grip formats...
