    Leopard 5692 1000kv questions

    I recently purchased this motor a Leopard 5692 1000kv used. Previous owner said only 2 runs on it. I noticed it was really difficult to turn the shaft so I took it apart to investigate the bearings. I took pictures of the Can and the Rotor. Please let me know if this looks normal? To me it looks really rough but I am by no means an expert on this.

      Looks like some mild condensation damage. If the bearings turn lose, I would oil them and wipe the rotor down with alcohol on a rag, then put a very light coat of oil on the rotor and re-assemble. Many motors have so much magnetic force they can feel like their binded up. Ohm out between all coil leads to see if they are all the same. If so, then try to hook it up and see what you get!

        Thank you. I will give that a try. Bearings seem good. So hook a meter up to each of the motor leads? Sorry just want to be sure how to test.

          If you arbitrarily assign the letters A, B and C to each lead, order doesn’t matter, then Ohm out between:

          1) A-B
          2) B-C
          3) A-C

          The readings should be within 2-3% of each other. Good luck!

          Oh, clean the stator, inside the can, the same way as the rotor. You can spray with WD-40 instead of oil too.

            Thanks they all measured out at .06 at 200kohm. I will do the cleaning as well. Thanks again for the help.

                Oh, forgot a measurement! Can’t believe I did that... using your highest resistance scale, measure each lead to the case of the motor. Do not touch the leads with your fingers, it will read your body resistance. It should read open or very high, in the mega Ohm range. This is the coil leak to case test. The first test was for shorted windings...
