Hi all installing a AQ 2030 kv motor in my JAE .21 using 4s 5000 mah lipo. For timing i have 2 program options 11.25 degrees or 15 degrees . Which would be more suited for my setup? For prop i will start with x442 i understand these motors can spin a fairly large diameter of prop i will run for a minute and check temps. What is the largest prop i can spin safley on this setup? Regards Andris Golts.

I have that same motor, it's a Y-wind and should be run on 11.25 degrees of timing. I ran this on 4s in a mono, 42mm was one of my favorite props for this motor. I averaged about 85 amps and 1,300 watts with motor temp averaging 110 degrees. I was using a 120 amp Turnigy ESC and averaged about 25,000 loaded rpm, I expect in an outrigger you would see a little bit less overall load due to lower drag on the outrigger.NEVER SATISFIED RACING

The timing depends on how many amps you draw. The x442 will be relatively mild in a properly set up JAE 21, depending on your desired run time you can prop up. I raced that motor in my Insane P Limited Sport Hydro for over three years before it finally gave up, I always ran 15 degrees of timing and either an m445 or a 42x66 prop. Both props averaged mid-50s speed at 26,000 rpm and ~90 amps racing on the oval. This setup should run a bit faster in the rigger.
Note that on decent ESCs the timing setting means relatively little. The ESC will optimize the timing around the 'setting' but the timing is constantly changing to suit the motor's requirements. It is possible that the actual timing the ESC provides the motor will be the same for both the 11* and 15* settings - depending on the controller and on the motor's demands.
