An interesting device, but you have to know the number of poles your motor has, and there seems to be a lot of confusion out there to answer that question, even from manufacturers, unless you disassemble the motor. The motor cradle seems to have no diameter adjustment. Just a couple of quick observations, but I would love to hear from a user.

For our needs, poles are 2, 4, or 6. 2 and 6 are not as common.
This motor checker is designed for sensored motors, with a cable reading the hall effect sensors. Those are car motors. I don't think any boat motors are sensored.Comment

I have the HK version (just different color) and it is quite a nice tool. KV measurement is the best part, especially for TP motors with the disappearing label...
Very useful to follow the motor performance, both with noise level (bearings) and with idle and no load current.Comment
