    Motor choice for twin mono

    Hi Skippers,
Recently I propped up my twin DF35 pirate to 3 blade 42mm props. I GPS'd at 57mph but when I downloaded my logger I found that at times I was pulling 170 amps (only about 100 when up on the plane though). The problem is that I am a bit concerned the 36/68 2250KV HETs are getting a little out of their depth. They were feeling uncomfortably warm.
My feeling is that I should go for a 39-40mm dia motor. I am interested in the opinions out there regarding the qualities of TP v SSS v leopard (and any suggestions). I don't think I need a heap more power, just more motor mass to dissapate the heat. As I have to buy two,the expensive stuff isn't really an option. Looking to stay around 2200KV, being a twin 42mm props are big as I can go.
My boat has 2 x 4s systems in it. I will probably upgrade the ESC's to the new OSE raider 150's at the same time (currently has SK120's)
    Many thanks Running Beer

I have to say, I'm in love with the SSS 4082 2000kv motors that I bought here from OSE. I originally had my doubts, most of my motors have been Leopard and I've had great luck with them, but several members from my group started to rave about the capabilities of these SSS motors and I decided to give them a try, I was not disappointed.

For reference, I setup an HPR 115 (45" hull) twin cat for SAW runs. I was originally going to go with a high-powered Leopard or TP setup. Either higher kv on 6S or lower kv on 8S. Regardless, I would need to use Swordfish 240s or 300s to make it work .

I then found out about the SSS motors, on how they seem to be more efficient and less amp hogs than either TP or Leopard while having the same kv, and would allow me to use Seaking 180a ESCs with no issues on 6S. So I bought a pair of SSS 4082 2000kv motors $89 each, and a pair of SeaKing/Turnigy 180a V3 ESCs for $85 each.

After 8 runs, I can tell you these motors are great. After a 12 lap 3 minute SAW run with 47mm props (Octura X447 L&R) my boat comes in COLD. The ESC temps are barely 115F on the heatsinks, and 105F at the base. The motors are anywhere from 97F - 107F, and the batteries are barely at 105F. I have never had a boat go this fast yet run so cold. Actually, I have never had a brushless boat of any kind run this cold, even my Aquacraft 45mph RTR boats run hotter, yet this boat goes over 80 mph.

In short, I recommend the SSS motors, they are strong yet very gentle to your ESC and batteries. Cold temps and long runs, very very happy with them. Also, I noticed almost no difference on the load to the motor, ESC or batteries when running either 42mm or 47mm props. Having a dual system does help a lot with reducing the load of both motors/ESCs.

BTW - I will probably write up a post/review of these motors soon.

...Thanks SD, I have been looking at the sss very closely too. That is exactly the type of information I am after. They do a 40/93 2140Kv as well. I only have 4s so maybe that's the go.
      Many thanks RB.
