Timing for Dynamite 2000kv 4 pole motor

Just installed a new Hobbywing 60A V3 ESC in my ProBoat Blackjack 24 and was just wondering if anyone knew if this is either a D or Y wind motor.

This is the Dynamite 3650 2000kv 4 pole motor. I set the timing at 7.5 degrees, down a bit from the default setting of 15 degrees. I'll run a bit and monitor motor temps.

This motor ran HOT, about 145-150 degrees with the stock 30A ESC. Not sure what they had the timing set at.

I plan to run this with an Octura X640 prop so we'll see what happens.

Just heard back from Horizon. This is a Delta or D wind motor.

I've since reset the timing to 3.75. We'll see what that does. The last run I had the timing at 7.5 and the motor still ran hot. Not to mention my negative lead de-soldered itself but I have since fixed that. Must have been a cold solder joint. I made sure to hold the heat on a bit longer.

      "D" wind motors -
I was told 0 to 2 degrees Max.
I set all my "D"'s to 1 degree, just enough to stop cogging.

Timing on a "D" wind just causes heat, NO change in RPM.

        Thanks for the reply Larry

With the Seaking V3 ESC, the timing in the low range is either 0 or 3.75 which is where I am currently. I'll drop the timing to 0 if the 3.75 setting gets things hot.

          I would say 0 would better then 3.75 on a "D"

Sounds good. I'll give the 0 setting a try.

                Hey Larry

I'm in Fort Myers, about an hour and a half away but if I ever get up that way, I'll definitely check this out.

                Thanks for the invite.

A couple of the guys from our club are from down that way.
They run at a pond behind the Publix, on the corner of Pine Island rd. and Burnt Store rd.

I know where that is. Never been there but I have seen it.

Also, turns out the 0* setting for the timing was the ticket. Everything came back much cooler, the motor was warm to the touch but not burning hot as before. The ESC was just barely warm as the wires, connectors and the 50C 3S lipo that I run in this boat and the Octura X640 prop works very well on this boat.

If there was a decrease in motor RPM by lowering the timing down to the minimum, I couldn't detect it. Thank you very much for the tip. I'll definitely keep this in mind for D wind brushless motors.

RPM is NOT effected on a "D" wind when timing is changed.
"Y" wind is a different story- increase timing = more RPM with less torque.

                        True

I'll have to pull out my temp gun the next time I run but before I was getting temps of about 145-150*F. The motor literature mentioned NOT to exceed 160*F so that was cutting it close.

Not to mention the Seaking ESC had a default timing of 15 degrees. Can't imagine why.

So, what's going on with a D wind when the timing gets more advanced? No more power, just more heat? What about the difference between 0 deg and 3.75?

Not to mention the Seaking ESC goes up to a max timing of 26.25 degrees. That would probably smoke any motor.

I was very satisfied with the temps while running the timing at 0. I don't plan to change it unless I was to install a Y wind motor at some point.
