Need advice on what motor for jae21 Outrigger

Hey guys I am building a jae Outrigger and would like to know what mother motor would you use. I don't race the boat and i want the motor that will yield me the highest top speed. So i have narrowed it down to 2 choices. I will be using a Seaking 180 esc. Would you guys go with a leopard 3674 3270kv on 4s or a 4082 2200kv on 6s? Both will be about the same rpm's (within 1000). Thanks

The 3674 will be easier to fit in, the 6s motor will pull less current on the same prop or will be able to push a bigger prop for more speed. How comfortable are you with deviating from the instructions?

All good points on the 6s and I would normally agree, however
knowing that space is tight in my Jae21 on 4s, I am not sure it
will be very easy to fit a 6s pack. The added weight may
be an issue also. Recently set mine up for full P-Hydro rather
than P-Ltd. They seem to like the extra power and if you are
merely looking for top speed like a SAWS run removing the
turn fin will add speed too.

6s and the 4082 will fit with some modification that i can do. Just don't know if I will get that much more speed with 6s and the 4082 because it weighs more than the 3674 4s combo. At almost the same rpm's. Thoughts?

How much speed do you need? I use a Castle 1415/1Y in mine, on 4S it runs high 70s during an oval race, turning 12 second laps. It uses 2700 mAh during a 6-lap race with temps under 120*F. It would be in the high 80s with a more aggressive prop and a smaller turn fin. Everything fits easily too. The Castle motor can be found on eBay for under $125, it is a much better motor than any Leopard.

I would love to hit the magic number 100mph but i don't think that can happen. I would be happy with 80's. I am familiar with the 1415 motor but what is 1y? Also what cooling jacket works with the motor? Does it leak at all with the ribbed can? Also what prop would you recommend? Thanks fluid

The 1415/1Y (1Y is the type of motor wind) has a Kv of 2400. I bought a jacket from either OSE or Kintec, can't remember. It was designed for the 1415 can and does not leak, ever. I run a cupped ABC H-7 prop.

A crash at 100 mph will probably tear off a sponson, and might pop the hatch too. These together could lead to a sinking and is another reason to run 4S and not 6S - less weight. I have toyed with the idea of bringing my JAE to the LA SAWs the last couple years and see how fast it can go. It won't break the current record (120-ish) but 100 mph should be doable. For that you'd need motor motor and more ESC. I'd try an HET 700-60-2800 motor to reach 100 mph, but I'd reinforce the hull and run a cable through the sponson tubes to keep the sponsons with the hull if/when it crashes....

Fluid would a 3270kv leopard on 4s be faster than the 2400kv Castle?

Probably not much, it is less efficient with less torque than the Castle and I would expect similar realistic speeds. It has a very high Kv and will stress the ESC if the prop is not just right. Plus run time will be just a few passes and back to the beach while the Castle will run longer and cooler with a larger more efficient prop.

Heck, you might be able to touch 100 with the Castle and the right prop...without a turn fin. But either motor will need more than a SK180 controller if you want 100 mph reliability.

I too was looking for a CC 1415 a year ago and I remember the 5mm shaft ones were hard to find, since I am a sport boater, I didn't care too much speed, I used a TP 3640 6D (2460 kv) on 4s with a Swordfish 220 Pro+ 6s ESC, it ran 70mph without too much fuss, just saying.....
Too many boats, not enough time...

Sooner or later I'm gonna finish my JAE 21 FE. Thought about a leo 3674 2200KV and 4S.
                          Would that work ok?
