Difference between Y -wind and D-wind

Hey guys I'm trying to understand the differences between these two windings. ( character differences ) Why would one be better than the other? More tq or Rpm Ect... I know timing between these are night and day. does one use more Amp's than the other? Again please inform us newbies. Thanks!

You are going to get many conflicting opinions. I don't know for sure myself, only what I've read. But. When I ordered a custom wind motor from neu a couple weeks ago I do remember that the wind I picked ended up being a Y wind. He said that's a good thing. I asked why. He said a y wind has a little more top end power and is easier on the Esc. Fwiw

Oh boy! I put a D-wind 2290 in my SW and was hoping I'd be done with it other finding what prop it liked.. The boat kept rolling to the left side, then found out I had a D-wind motor and checked and reset timing...still trying props from 443- 642 and readjusting trim tabs , added weight the whole deal and it still wants to roll!! I had no problem with the 2030 (Y-wind) I had in there, even with the 6S! WTF, I'm baffled!! So I thought of what the differences of windings , if that could cause this. Thanks for your input
