    Leopard 3674 Rotor wear

    Hi All

I stripped my motor down to replace the bearings as they are rumbling and found a lot of wear on the rotor and build up on either end of the rotor or is it for balancing. One other thing does anyone no if I can change protective braid on the wires to shrink wrap as I have torn a piece?

The rotor has rubbed against the stator, wearing off the carbon wrap and depositing the resulting powder on the ends. Maybe because the bearings were worn, maybe because of shaft whip. Putting additional shrink wrap on the wires is fine.

Thanks Fluid, do you think the rotor is still okay to run? This is my first motor I have stripped .

Just a heads up on those deposits on both ends of the rotor, they are standard on Leopard motors. Its how Leopard & many other budget motor manufacturers balance their rotors by adding these deposits.

This may not apply to your situation, but I replaced bearings on a new traxxas velineon motor that was growling, and the problem did not go away. So I re-tested, observed, and listened some more at the bench. It turned out that the shaft was vibrating in and out, and the bearings were fine. I found some 0.1mm shims and shimmed the slop out, and the motor runs fine now.
