Investigating Shockwave 26 repower

So my son wants to be a little bit faster this season, he needs to keep up with his Grandpa who just picked up a Blackjack 29. I'm sure the 29 will start out with (2) nimh packs since he is new to RC boating as well. So what might be some good recommendations for a brushless system for the 26?

I only want to run 1 battery pack and I currently don't use any lipos or have that specific charger
I need to upgrade motor and ESC correct?
Stock prop or aftermarket undecided

I don't need him to do 50mph, just make us competative with that BJ 29 on a budget.

Hey Ken I'm not sure How old the BJ26 is so we would need to know what KV motor is in it or what amp the ESC is. These would help us make recommendations. Changing prop for more speed heats things up. Going to 11.1 lipo would help him keep up, but without knowing what amp ESC is in there, you have to watch the C rating for it, you can get about a 35c and charger for about a hundred. Again upping the motor & ESC could put a heavy load on the NIMH battery and for both would cost about $180-190.
