    Need advice, motor mount template

    hello gentlemen
So this is my first twin build and I am coming across the motor mount template and I know from studying the other builds. measuring & making sure everything is precise is 100% key to building a proper boat! any hints or tips for making the template for the custom carbon fiber motor mount ATTACH=CONFIG]125676[/ATTACH]

Really anything said will be greatly appreciated

David, your right on wanting to be very precise. I make a solid template out of posterboard. I slightly slot my screw holes so I can have a little side to side adjustment for centering the motor shaft. Since your not running monster size motors just 2 holes for motor mounting should suffice. What I do is use a slightly larger size in diameter washer to spread out the stress across the cf plate...hope this helps ya bud.... Happy Holidays... DJ

I have drilled the shaft hole , then put a little blue grease on the face of the end bell and pressed it into the mount, you can see the imprint where the holes go but still star off small with the drill be and keep checking along the way !

Place your mount in the proper place with the angle that you need, try to find a cylindrical item that is about 40mm or a bit more, and the length about your motor ( medicine container) , little by little you will see where the motor should be attached, only drill when you are sure, start with the shaft hole, don't drill right away to a big one, then measure from the center hole to determine where the mounting holes should go. That's the way I go.
I am in the process of my first twin build, and I have to come up with a template. I started with sticky paper, then post card thick paper, finally moving to simi rigid styrene board. DSCN7228.jpgDSCN7230.jpgDSCN7232.jpgDSCN7234.jpg, obviously this is still in the early stages yet, next is to fine tune the dimension and finally get the holes in the right place.
I have not decided to use CF plate or FG G-10 as the material for the mount yet. something to mull over while I have to attend some dinner engagement at my ex's for a mutual friend!

Wow......you guys have some very innovative methods. I like how you think! I'm lucky to have a 'hi-tech' digital readout on my mill, so all of this is not necessary. Another example of how technology has made me dumber!

I just use playdoe for the hull form. Then just sketch on ply or CF. I like slots for the motor shaft and screws so I can adjust up and down then put your angle to it when your stuffing tube is in and line up and then tack her in.
