    Castle 1515b ??

I noticed that castle has a new 1515b 2200 kv smooth can motor out.
Has anyone used one of these yet? They are quite a bit cheaper than the normal 1515 2200 finned motors.

I have one in an rc car. It did like 93mph so I'm pretty sure is just as powerful.

According to castle it's a new motor and has the "same internal design" as their Neu-Castle 1515 motor. This particular motor seems to be only offered in a combo package with a Sidewinder ESC. The ones on ebay are from someone who bought the combo and is trying to sell the ESC and Motor seperately. They are about half the price of the original NC 1515 so that raises a red flag for me.

Same here, I would like to know if it is the same as the neu/castle 1515, just with a smooth can. I suspect it is not due to it's price.

That is what I have been saying to myself all this time.

Well, that is good to know. I feel more confident now that knowing you and your son have first hand experience on this motor.

Still, I wonder why the drastic price difference ? I know that finned motor can costs more to make, but it doesn't account for all the reduction in cost.

And the ones that really mean something (both rotors were marked the same way and had the same putty on them to balance them)

No problem. Truth be told, my son was sleeping so I snuck his motor out his room and took it apart. But really what could he say...... I bought it! Lol

I could find no difference between the two. The ONLY thing I saw was on the finned motor, there was two curved washers to keep tension on the rotor. I've seen some motors have that and some not. Even the same name brand. A far as I can tell, they are identical.

Thanks buddy! I take your words seriously, and truth be told I am very happy to hear your findings!
I had a sneaky feeling that you took the motor out of your son's possession for those pictures. And the time you are willing to spend to inform us, thanks again!

not very illuminating, but relevent and from the horses mouth, here are some responces to the differences between the 1515 and 1515B posted by Patrick on the RC Monster forum.

He wouldn't be pushed on what the other "very minor internal differences" were.

The curved washers is all I could find different.

More interesting stuff. My son put a 1515 in one of his short course trucks. That motor kept shredding axles. So I let him use one of my 1415 motors. I've been told it has a 1515 rotor in it. Been told the rotors are the same size, they make the same power...etc.

Well from his perspective, he says the 1415 has a little less torque but more top end power. Fastest he got with the 1515 was 66mph, 1415 was 66mph the the tire popped. Lol. But even more interesting is I took them both apart to compare just now. The rotors are very close in size which explains the exceptional power the 1415 has..... take a look...

I think this pic makes the 1415 look the same size because of the angle. They arent...the 1415 is only a tad shorter tho...
