    cheetah motor options

so i have a cheetah im building. i was debating twins, but it seems the motors i have may be powerful enough to run as a single setup in. which def saves on the budget side. i have 2 tp 4092 2200kv old style. so 4 or maybe 5s max. these seem like powerful motors from what ive read. so would one be sufficient for a 50-60mph oval boat? or should i stick with the twin idea and see waht she can really do. i have a sf220a esc

The single motor will work, a club member used that motor on 4S and he easily hit 50s. The Cheetah is not a very good zoom-zoom boat, it doesn't like speeds much over 60-65. A Mystic design is a far better hull for really high speeds.

that is what i figured. i read a lot about it blowing over much over 60-65. this will save the other motor for another project or just a spare.

I had a 1717 in mine. I loved it. X447/3 prop. Did 62 on 6s. This one I'm building will have a 1250kv neu on 8s for a little extra weight. I will be adding a little additional weight to it low in the hull in an attempt to keep in on the water at higher speeds.

unfortunately the older style tp 4092 isnt reliable much above 5s. hold together great on 4s, pushing it on 5 and most likely let the smoke out on 6. id be happy with 4s2p and reliably in the mid 50s

That is true. I've had one of these motors in a P-mono and it was pretty radical on 4S2P.

Take the front cap off. Remove the rotor. Drill and tap the rear end cap for (4) 3mm or 2mm screws. The main problem with those motors is the glued on end cap popping off.

That could be an issue too. My 1521 with a 5mm shaft did it....but I was Turning ALOT of rpm. I caught it before it destroyed itself. Keep the RPMs under 35k and it should be ok. (I don't know this for fact, but unless they use play doh to make the shaft, it should be ok)

It has been well known for years that the 1521 and longer motors have shaft whipping issues at high rpm with the 5mm shaft. It is not the material the shaft is made of, it is harmonics. This is why makers of higher quality motors offer the 8mm option. If in doubt, take that option.
