Low kv or large kv for my 4s setup genesis

    Hello all

I am new to this hobby and having a blast!! I started off on a mono x and after replacing all the parts i moved onto a genesis

I currently run a turnigy 120a but will put in a 180-200 amp esc and do the 3/16 shaft upgrade before any larger motor goes in

I now want to build a bullet proof system so I am thinking 4s, but do I go high kv or low?

If I run 1600ish kv I would run a 4514 or something close or my other option would be something 2-2200kv and a 4214.

Any thoughts. I have ready a lot of posts on here but can't decide what way to run.

    Thanks

    I would get a 2000kv leopard 4074 motor and run on 4s with a swordfish 220.

Do you want to go fast in a straight line "SAW" or do you want to run around a course like Heat racing ? a 2000 kv could run up too 6S with the suggested esc...

I live a cross the road from a lake and like to just muck around. I would prefer a track setup. The 4074 would be a great option

What would be a good prop?

Would prefer a All round setup. Fast 50-55 mph would the 4074 4s 2x 5000mah do this?

Id just go with the 2200kv on 4s I revise my first statement, never run on 6s with this setup. I have burned a ton of brushless motors from too much rpm and usually when they go they take an esc too

Start with a 42-44mm... I found mine likes a 642 but im running 6S on a 1515 2200kv and its a handfull....dont go very big on prop, the Genesis easily torque rolls...the Genesis is very sensitive to strut height...lots of info here on forum ...have fun... DJ

I'm just completing the upgrades on my Genesis
Going by what several people on youtube did (search youtube for Genesis 4082) I went with a Leopard 4082 1600kv & will be running through a Seaking 180 amp esc on
                6s
I also did the 3/16 shaft & a double water pick up rudder. I am not going with the offset rudder even though I did buy it.
It's not finished but I plan on posting a video soon.

Well went somewhere in between went with a 1850 kv tp 3660 and a 4514 prop let's see how it goes. I like the idea of high torque might push it through the turns better.
As for strut height who new 2mm could make that much difference either way

Those running this setup (4082, 1600KV, 6s) do you run (2) 6s in parallel or (2) 3s in series.
I am wondering if (2) 6s in parallel is too much weight.
Also how much run time are you getting and what battery setup i.e. parallel/series, 5000ma, etc...
Thanks in advance for your reply.

I run mine 2 3S series, I dont see how you could fit 2 6S and keep the weight low. Wish I could fit 2 6S in mine it would be even faster and the weight would not be an issue, this hull likes the cog a bit more forward than alot of cats. My COG is around 35% and it runs great....in series I run 2 5000 mah 3S 65-130c..since Im doing saw runs I really cant give a definite runtime....

Thanks for your reply, I will make some measurements on the 6s pack size and see if I can get them to fit. If not I will do (2) 3s packs in series.
Has anyone used the Aeromarine stuffing tube seal to seal flex housing and allow greasing of shaft without removing? Are you actually able to get grease to travel to prop shaft end? This looks neat if it works.

They work great ! nice upgrade :) I would still pull flexshaft out before first run and lube it up good, then use the grease fitting for in between runs that day lubing...they do keep the water out and keep you from loosing a flexshaft.... my Genesis on a test run with a 640 prop, not the best run but its still fast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mw_q...-HHXr-nwXvpm2A

lowarbird, you mentioned 35% COG, is that measurement from the rear of the sponses or the rear of the deck by rudder attaching point?

                            Thanks,
                            Rick

Rick, from deck by rudder attachment im around 13.5" now understand my boat is setup for "SAW" only ! if I was running it as a oval I'd bring that back around a inch or more... I might have to move it a bit depending on prop... DJ
