Has anyone pushed a Castle Mamba XL-2 hard in a boat yet?

    Ray,
You definitely want to water cool the ESC for a P or Q system. Although it is a decent junk of aluminum it is not enough for a full heat race.
I found switching the stock caps to better Rubycon ZL caps even with the same total capacitance was an advantage. Increasing the stock capacitance while keeping the caps in the same location was a larger improvement. When I added an external cap bank connected by wires the benefit was much less compared to when the caps were close to the DC bus on the board.

Aaaah, I see says the blind man, thank you and I now have a cap bank I didn't really need to buy, lol... Thanks again Tyler. I'll just go to Mouser electronics and order some, they service Canada well.

      There is another place... memory...

I did mean to water cool the case but, if you think directly in the board like others have done it is more effective I can easily accomplish that.

Same cap dimensions as the old ones or did you have something a little different in size being a ZL vs stock? I'll go do some searches.

I found them at Newark. Thanks. I could just buy the 50V ones.

          Ray,

For the best results, I unsoldered the stock caps and replaced the inboard ones with the same diameter and capacitance so they will still fit when the case is on. For the axial ones between the inputs leads I used the same diameter, but found the longest length ZL cap, from memory this was a 50V 1000uF. Using this combo allows the use of the stock heat sinks for cooling.

On the ICE lite 200's, I remove all the caps and add 6x- 50V 1000uF ZL caps.

The stock ICE Hydra heat sinks work well although they only really cool the top half. The bottom half has to rely on conduction through the sidewalls to the top heat sink or through the board and top layer of FETS. If you bond cooling tubes to the top and bottom of the stock heat sinks you are good.

Perfect! Had to go to Newark for the Rubycon ZL's, mouser and Digkey did not pan out. It's all good, thank you!
