Motor burned up

If my motor burned up would the esc be ok or not or did it cause internal problems of any kind it was a T180 esc. It seemed to power up with another motor but then I sent the boat out with that esc then it shutdown about 40ft out so I don't know if esc caused it or it was something else. I brought it back to shore then it powered up again. Any help appreciated thanks.
