Help with motor selection for 36 inch CAT

    Hi guys

as the title says i am looking for help selecting a motor far a conversion of a AC Nitro Cat 36 x 14 inch from nitro to electric, my plan was to run it as a circuit racing boat against the nitro 15cc and petrol boats at my club so duration is not an issues, just all out speed.

    Thanks Steve

Do you have the hull? You might be better of with a bigger cat the same size as theirs rather than a 7.5cc hull, racing significantly bigger boats it pretty tough even if you are faster, big boats dig big holes in the water, so getting into their wash is not an option, the oly safe methods of overtaking are folling at distance in the hopes that they go wide and you can accelerate up the inside of them, or running the whole course in a lane outside theirs which requires a lot more speed and the trust that they will not stray into your lane and blow you over.

      Hi Paul

i've been racing this boat for the past couple of years with a CMB 67hr against other nitro and petrol cats without any problems, the hull is designed for 11 to 13cc nitro, the CAT is not as fast as my sprint cat but it handles the chop of heat racing alot better. The hull i am happy with i just want to get the right power plant to put in it, NEU preferably

The classic power for a cat that size is the Neu 1527/1Y. On 6S2P it should push the cat into the 60s. For a bit more speed run 8S and a Neu 1530/1Y. What speeds were you running with nitro in the hull?

X450/3 is a good prop for this cat with a Neu 1527 on 6S .I have this set up on a Sprint cat 36. running in the low 60's for heat race.Gill

                Thanks Gill

i have a couple of nice X450/3 that i use on my Nitro sprint cat, so which esc are you using on this setup, i was considering a castle 240 but was wondering if there are any other esc that i should be looking at.

                cheers

A cap bank is not required on any sane oval setup, but some consider it insurance. The Castle already has four pretty large caps from the factory.
