    Motor Mount Jae21

I was wondering the zipp kit motor mount for the Jae says its for a 36mm dia. motor but would a 40mm motor also fit.
If not what mount do guys use when not using the UL1 motor.

    Thanks

Most 40mm motors use the same 25mm hole pattern as the UL-1 motor.

It depends on the water cooling jacket you use. Some are very close to the spacing between the mount legs and may have an interference issue. Thinner jackets should work okay. I use a Castle 1415 motor (36mm) without problems in my JAE 21FE, it runs low 70s depending on the prop.

A few have fitted Leopard 4082 motors in the JAE, a small mod is required to the stock mount. Its a simple mod that can be done with a half round file where the side angles need a radius filed to allow the motor end cap to sit on the Zipp mounting plate.

Thanks for your answers, I will be trying a TP 4050 so I think I will be ok. The water jacket is thin.

As an example a Leopard 40 series cooling jacket clears the mounting legs 2mm either side.

The width between the mounting legs on the Zipp mount is 51mm & the Leopard jacket is 47mm.

With the larger size motors you will have to do some mods to the hatch opening to make it a bit wider to get the motor in & out, you may have to mod the hatch to clear the longer & wider motor & jacket as its very close to the hatch.

Which cooling Jacket are you using with the Castle 1415 and still able to get it into an "as designed" JAE?

                  Thanks,
                  Mike

A jacket for a Feiago 540 fits. It's not as tight as other jackets but so far no leaks. It isn't this exact jacket but very similar.

what are you going to use for batteries? I have one of those still in the box. The Leo 4050 looks good but I'm also looking at TP Power motors.
