"Y" wind prefers higher timing , as said, 11-15 to start, I personally time my "Y" motor at 15*
"D" wind prefers lower timing, around 2* is a good threshold.
When you look at motors from the web such as here @ OSE, most od the time you will see the spec for windings : http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...o-4082&cat=148
for instance: Leopard 4082, 2200kv is a "Y" motor, where as the 2000kv is a "D" motor.
