    Need motor advice

I just ordered on of these. I love the look of the Outerlimits hull!! http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dproduct=30530

I would like to run it on 4s, but I don't think that motor will last. What would be a good motor upgrade for this hull. 34.25 long by 8.6 wide.

    Thanks

why not the 40x82? Is there a reason you recommend the shorter motor?

If your talking about the HK Turnigy 4082 its only 1500kv which would be quite slow on 4s.

          Nope. A Leo 40x84 at either 2000kv or 2200kv.

Either of the Leopards 4082 motors would be ok, you would of course have to change the 36mm end ring of the mount to a 40 mm ring. You would also need to upgrade the flex to .187" as they normally only use 4mm flexes which isnt strong enough on a 4082 motor. You would also have to fit quite a short water cooler relative to the extra length of the 4082 motor, as you restricted on not being able to move the mount ring further foward without mods to the mount so as to get a longer cooler in between the mount plate & ring. You would have a 40-45mm long cooler on an 82mm long motor.

Nothing wrong with a 4082 but it's a bit of overkill for this hull. I'd go for a 3674 1450kv and run it on 6S ~4000 mAh on a T120 esc. It will run cool, fast and you'd keep the weight to a decent level. I'd also keep the 4 mm driveline until it breaks, if it ever will? I've had luck with my 4 mm drivelines running 4074 and Prop Shop 4312/4 and 4518/3 (cat hull) and really flooring it, making the hull jump out of the water from a standstill. So, my guess is the 4 mm driveline will hold together if you take care of it (lubing, checking clearences etc etc).

I'd run a OSE blanced and sharpened M440 prop on this hull. It's pretty narrow, wont handle big props and that's why I think a 4082 is a waste of money. But, if you really want the muscle then why stop at 4082 when there's 4092?
