    Motor maintenance

I'm sure it's been discussed, but the search feature just brings up every thread that has the word motor in it, so here's a new thread on the subject.
I recently spoke to another member shortly about oiling motor bearings.
Personally the only thing I ever do to my motors is nothing.
If I get them soaked I will spray a bit of water displacement in there but really, that's maybe once a season, and some of them have never been wet or oiled and run just fine.
Just thought I would share and leave it open to discussion.

Many motors have sealed bearings, so oiling the bearings does not good - but it does no harm either. Drying out the motor fully after it gets wet is one of the most important maintenance procedures to follow. Putting a motor away wet will rust the magnets and corrode any exposed copper wire. Neither does the motor's performance or longevity any good.
