    motor timing

I have the Aquacraft brushless motor and ESC combo aqcom-1800. The motor is running very hot in my 30" hydro. It has been suggested that I change the timing. Is there a programming module available for this ESC? I have a programming module (PRB3311)for the 60 amp ESC that is in my Proboat
Stiletto. I also have a HobbyWing programming module for the SeaKing 60 amp ESC. Would either of these modules work to program the Aquacraft ESC? HELP!!

If you are using the stock AQ 60A ESC, there is no need to change the timing...the factory had a pretty good idea what the motor needs. If the motor is running "hot" (what exactly does hot mean?) then the problem is not the timing. You are probably a victim of one of the following:

    - Too much prop - reduce prop size.
    - Running too long - limit run time.
    - Running too wet - loosen up the hull.
    - Too small of a pond, requiring too much on and off throttle - run on a bigger pond.

I run that exact combo in my MC with an m445 prop, and even on a 100*F day with very warm water temperatures nothing gets over 130*F after 2 minutes of hard running. The boat runs freely on the one-mile course.

None of this will work. The aquacraft esc's are not programmable and the esc is preset to 10* timing which is ideal for the wye wind motors (which u have). If you having heat issue:

      - water cooling
      - binding
      - sufficient gap between drive and strut
      - prop selection

      * if outside and water temps are hot that will cause major issues also.

thanks for your help and suggestions. probably major problem is prop. I am currently running an Octura X642. I am going to downsize to a X442 or X440 on 4s or 3s lipo. current daytime temps here are in the high 80s water temp in the lake is probably 80.

Thanks Fluid. I am going to a smaller prop. HOT is when one of the bullet connectors from motor to ESC became un-soldered.

Report: i run a H7 prop @ 11 degrees on my T120A SC combo with 2030kv Ul-1 motor. Temp reading are 40+ degrees on the average for all electronics. this setup is on jae21 for 3 min run of 3300mah capacity. voltage reading after, are around 3.8V per cell .Very efficient and light weighted, boat just skim acrosss the water.

That is not an automatic indication of too hot. Many of the RTR motors have this issue - poorly soldered connectors that come apart even under 'normal' use. If we knew the actual motor temperature we could better diagnose the problem. On a hydro running correctly an x642 should not be excessive for 2-3 minutes run time.
