When buying a new motor is it better to get a Y wind or D wind motor, the 4082, 1800, 2000, 2200, motors OSE has are custom wound, what kind of wind is that, not D or Y ?
Y or D wind motor?

"D" winds do not like much timing, I usually use ~2* advance on mine. The "Y" wind motors like timing, but the amount depends on the amp draw and the number of turns on the motor. The higher the amp draw, the more timing. 10* to 15* is usually a good compromise. At a SAW race last year I gained over 3 mph going from 15* to 20* - but that was at over 225 amps. For normal amp draw, 10* to 15* is 'best'. Too little timing for the amp draw will reduce efficiency and increase heat.

Can you tell what kind of winding my motor has from the pictures?

You say you beefed up the windings, if you wound the motor yourself you should know how you wound it!
Especially if you modded it by removing magnets.
How can you do mods like this and not know the specs or at least wind of motor to begin with?If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?Comment

I did not rewind the motor (please quote anwhere where I say this). The motor on the left is a 'standard' CF2812. The motor on the right with the beefier windings is what came with my Super Mono X. Either Joysway took your vanilla CF2812 and modified it to their specs or had it produced for them. The only modifications I did was replace stock bearings with Boca Ceramic, as the stock bearings, which have been known to fail at the 1600KV spec, certainly won't hold up to 3300KV specs.

Read the post again, I thought you did the work. Kinda hard to follow with the text broken up by the pics.
You see some people doing some bizarre things on these forums, watch a youtube vid then try to rewind a motor etc......
What boat is that tiny thing going in? I thought the small joysways came with a 2445 inrunner? If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?Comment

Here ya go:
Even though I'm a newbie, I think this thing is pretty fast compared to what's out there and the reason why is that it's very light (plastic hull, not fiberglass), being able to take advantage of a small, lightweight high-RPM outrunner.

That runs pretty damn good for 160$ new! A bunch of those would be a fun cheap club class. If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?Comment

I'm afraid that my new .130 Octura drive setup and Seaking 120a ESC is going to weigh her down though. She's probably at least 150-200 grams heavier (including 2200 mah weight over stock 1800) than original.Comment

Its the Offshore Warrior that has the 2445 inrunner motor, as fluid states the Scorpion out runners like low timing & i believe Scorpion recomends 5degrees. But most outrunners like long timing around mid 20 degrees, I use to run my 450 size outrunners in my Warrior at 30degrees, i was looking for max speeds thoughComment

(Sorry to hijack the thread, but I thnk it's pertinent to the OPs needs anyways). I don't want to end up with a burned up ESC due to timing. What's good to start with safely and what's recommended based on my config?Comment
