    Leopard 4092 2080kv 3.5D

Anyone running this motor? If so, what size props are you swinging, what hull, batts, timing and temps. I was told these D winds tend to run hot. I'm not sure this will work for my application so any help you seasoned guys can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks

While I haven't run this particular motor, IME Leopards run a bit hotter than Neu or Castle motors of similar specs. D or Y wind, they simply have lower efficiency than some other motors. I would assume that the motor is suitable for hydros, monos or cats in the 30" to 36" range running 4S. Timing should be low, packs to handle 150 amps minimum. Props would depend on the hull, but 45 to 50 mm diameter certainly should be possible in some hulls. As for temperatures, I don't like anything hotter than 140*F.

      I have this 4092 2080kv motor in my DF33 running a x645 on 4s2p (5000mah 50c packs)
my timing was to high (forgot to change from 15*) and my temps after a 6 lap heat was 125* on motor and esc
will try 0* and 5* on the next run this week..
motor looks to have good potential

Steven Vaccaro has tested the Leopard 4092 against the TP 4092 recently & posted results on here. He was testing them in a DF 36" cat hull both on 6s with 180a esc & X450 prop, the leopard was a 4092-1730kv & recorded 67mph the TP 4092 - 1800kv recorded 60mph. He also tested a Leopard 4082 - 1600kv & got 55mph. He said the leopard had so much torque it would roll the boat & added extra batteries to stabalize the boat (i believe he went up to 10,000mah up from the 5000mah he was testing on) & still got 65mph but the boats handling suffered with the extra weight.

I'll look that up Martin, thank you!

What I noticed is that in TP motors the windings fall short in the rear of the can compared to the Leo's I've opened.

Meaning a TP 4092 has windings as long as a Leo 4082 or fairly close from what I've seen.

Think I might grab a 4092 from Steve to test out.

Ray also ask Steven as he may have done more runs since posting.

I read the thread and it ended a while ago.

Sent him a email via store asking what prop would work best on my df33 p-mono if using the 2080 kv 4092.

he really couldn't say in the email. Basically said the 2080kv was best for P-mono (my df33) but, prop is up to the application.

That said a 43-45mm prop has been fine on my TP Power 4092 2200kv in df33.

I may try a TP 4092 to run up against my DF33 Leopard 4092 for a personal shoot out..

...and maybe I'll try the Leo funds permitting.
