New 8mm Leopard 5692 shafts vs 6mm shafts - any actual difference?

I have (8) Leopard 5692 motors with 6mm shafts. Has anyone done a real world comparison between the 6mm and new 8mm motors of identical KVs & same boat setup?

Are there any actual benifits to be had going to an 8mm shaft (other than 8mm being harder to bend - and who cares about getting bent in a boat)? The only improvement I can think of the 8mm use larger bearings - good for SAW RPMs. JIM

    OMG
LOL Jim, if you have ever seen any type of high RPM motor bend or break the collet end IN a boat at speed
you would welcome the 8MM shafts. Things get destroyed in a big hurry when one lets go for any reason.
kind of looks like a grenade going off in a dumpster. (if you can imagine such a thing)

There were problems with the original Neu 1527s having 5mm shafts all the way through. Some shafts would apparently whip enough to cause the magnets to hit the windings and damage them. Never heard of a shaft letting go but I suppose it could have happened. Now all are made with 8mm shafts; you can order them with the PTO end ground down to 5mm.

Larger bearings are actually less suited for high rpm use. The larger diameter race requires higher velocities for the same rpm.
