    brushless motor maintenance

Is it a good idea or bad to put a small drop of oil on the bearings of the motor when you are finished running for the day?

ive been doing it and so far so good, I have an old bottle of parma oil that I use from when i used to race slotcars, kinda like a glue bottle with a needle on it. good for a drop of oil on the bearings !

I don't so my inboards that often, they stay clean and dry (usually), the outboard gets thoroughly sprayed with wd-40 then a drop of sewing machine oil.
Too much oil isn't as big an issue with brushless motors though, but depending on the motor it may be doing nothing, depends on the kind of bearings. No point in oiling a sealed bearing.
I figure boats run in a clean dust free environment, unless you clean out the oil or burn it off there is nothing to make it go away and all it takes is a microscopic layer of oil to separate and lubricate the components.
I came from the brushed motor background where you didn't want to over oil and get your brushes dirty, just been treating brushless the same, no bearing failures yet.
LOL been using the same can of Singer oil since the mid 80's! Probably still have 10 years worth left.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Thats a good idea with wd40 first as it will displace an water and then the bearing oil. The reason I posted this question is that recently a Traxxas Spartan motor got water in it a few times because of the cheap water jacket and nothing was done until the bearings gave out. Lessons learned the hard way.
          Thanks for your help, Bill
