    JAE 21, Leopard 3660 or 3665 motor

Which leopard motor would be a better choice in a JAE 21 using a T120a esc & 4s. Leopard 3665 - 2100kv or 3660 - 2550kv, trying to keep the amp draw down so as to use the T120 esc. i believe these 2 motors are around the same amperage but the 3665 has a bit more power but the 3660 has more rpm. Anyone know how these 2 motors would compare to each other in a JAE 21. Thanks Martin.

I would run the Aqua 2030kv motor.

I was looking for a bit more speed than the aqua 2030kv motor + their not available in the UK, which means buying from the US. By the time you add shipping + the taxes we have to pay (around 25% in total ) it makes it an expensive motor for a relativally cheap motor. Leopards can be had for a lot less money in the UK.

then you are going to need a bigger motor. the Aqua 2030kv is a powerhouse. I would use a Leopard 3674 case

I dont think you would get away with the 3674 with a 120a esc, someone on here ran a 3665 Leopard on 4s in a JAE & got around 66mph with a circuit set up. Im not sure if you will see that from the Aqua motor.

I run a Hydra 240 and a Leopard 3674 2650 kv with 4s 4000-5000 mah batts and an M545 prop. I think the best way to not have ESC problems is to build in a LOT of overhead in your setup- hence the Hydra 240. Boat is fast and everything runs pretty cool. The 4000 Nano Techs run a little warmer than the Hyperion 5000. Ran this last year and 6-8 runs this year- no problems yet. You can't beat a JAE21FE for handling.

The idea was to have a reasonably fast boat without spending 240a esc sort of money which is why i was looking towards the Leopard 3660 or 3665 motors & not the 3674 which would have a much higher amp draw.

I ran a 6xl on a skywing (suppo) 200A ESC in mine for the 2010 season. Which is a cheaper steup than the UL1 is over here for sure, cheaper than your proposed leopard/T120 too I think, I upgraded the motor to a Nue 1415 in '11 (for racing efficiency, I'm going no faster now) and have the 6XL and a spare skywing 200A sitting here, will swap for your T120 and a 28mm 3-3500kv motor if you have one laying around.

Some people can do astonishing things with little motor, Brian Bauss's P spec riggger on an UL1 motor does a consistent and reliable 67mph in oval trim and he is a SAW racer as well as an oval racer so that is not a GPguess speed.

Paul i use the T120 in my other boats as well, the reason i was thinking 120a is with the UL1 motor their using the Aquacraft 60a esc in the JAE & getting around 55-57mph. I thought you may get away with the T120 going to a Leopard 3660 or 3665 motor as their much lower amp motors than the 3674 Leopards. If push comes to shove to save messing with lower amp motors i have a T180a esc that i intend to alter the cooling plate so as the tubes dont come out the sides of the esc & i can get it in the tub of the JAE 21 & then ill go with a Leopard 3674.By the way the T120a are not much dearer than the Suppos as i get them from HK for £37 inc shipping.
