Leopard 4074 motor (how do you remove end cap)

How do you remove the end cap on the 4074 motor, the shaft end comes out ok removing the screws but how does the wires end come out. ive removed the small screws that go through the side of the can but didnt want to force the cap off, is this cap just a tight fit & whats the best way to get it out. Thanks Martin.

I have a thicker piece of brass tubing I heavily pad the end and slide the brass down the center of the motor holding the motor at the 12 o'clock position and the end of the brass aimed towards the work bench and tap the end cap off that way. Glue is holding it on.

Yes i took a chance on that way & it came out fairly easy, I wonder also how the end caps come out on the smaller leopard motors that dont have any screws in either end cap. I wonder if their both glued in.

Unless the bearings have gone bad or the windings fried, I see no reason to pop the end caps off a perfectly good brushless motor. Bearings aren't that costly, but replacing the windings is not cost effective. I'd just buy another motor.

On the other hand, a post mortum autopsy of your brushless motor could be interesting & informative. JIM

The latest leopard motors have end caps machined with cooling slots in both end caps for better cooling. I will be machining slots in mine that are fully closed caps, i have one of the new motors that have these slots. Theirs 4 slots in each end. Martin.
