I have just had 2 turnigy H2218 2500kv outrunners delivered and I was going to use them in a dragon saga twin as a replacement for the stock 380 motors. I don't have the boat yet but the motors look really small. My question is have I purchased the correct size motors for this hull?

Your concern is in the length of the 2218 motors corrcect?
They are the same diameter as the stock motors, but are much shorter. I feel they should work. The boat is what, about 25" right?"A quick temper will make a fool of you soon enough."

Yes, it's the ekos clone. I was hoping they would be the same size as the ones in the latest ekos. Looks like I will have to scrap them then!Comment

I think the H3126 (500 size) outrunners will be too big. Could try the 2200kv versions that fightercat stocks.Comment

The 450 motors that you have are 500w, Turnigy do a 450/500 600w that is the same diam as the ones you have & same diam as the Venom ones. Their also 42mm long the same as the Venom ones, But the closest ive seen kv on these is 2900kv.Comment

Outrunners in a Cat
Fwiw I run Heli motors in my bigger cat. 29-33" depending on how you measure it.
I have run 500 size 1600kv Turnigy's and now have a pair of 1800 (1900?) Typhoons in there.
They are run on 5S via 100 mystery type E-bay sec's
These are the motors i have run with a lot of success

I ran the 1600kv ones on 6s in a twin HOR 32". Motivated the hull really nice, and sound wicked. I ran CF40's but it will take more prop. I planned on CF45s but sold the hull before I could try them.Comment

I might try some leopard 2850 2950kv inrunners on 3s when I get some more pennies. I just thought those outrunners would be a cheap upgrade, guess not.Comment

Not all boats and not all applications, I have a good spread of OR and IR motors through the fleet and there are some that may change soon too.
IMO if you have a good air volume like a mono or Cat then an OR can be tried and sometimes be successful.
In general riggers are not good homes to OR motors but it can be done
If you have found some well priced cans to go in there then do it. It is all about learning and having fun. !See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with woodComment
