"D" windings can take more amps then "Y" windings. Thats proven by design. But what confuses people is comparison. Since we dont have a encompasing chart, like other manufacturers offer, the Leopard series of motors are a bit of an oddity in application right now.

Since you want "short, max speed runs" there is realy only one motor choice. Thats the 5692 1090kv 2Y on 8S. It offers you the max power from their advertised series of motors. Is there one better suited? Could be. Untill they share with us they decide to define their data for public offering its going to be a guessing game.

The 730 is the only one I would run on anything over 9s personally. You could maybe run the 1000kv on 10s for very short speed passes but with its lower amp draw I would think you could make a faster boat out of the 730kv. I ran a Neu 2215 1.5y (1020kv) in my delta force copy with a swordfish 240HV and that esc worked great. I did run 10s for a short blast in mine and got into the 70's. 9s with a s240 prop had me in the mid 60's.
        Hope that helps.

On 8s the 1090 would be a great choice.

Many thanks for replys, The 1090kv motor also seems to be the one more generally available to me to buy as well. With this motor on 8s how close is it to the limit on a Swordfish hv 240 or is it well within its capabilitys and be kind to this esc. Martin.
