    6s, 2x3s 5000mah in series.

Why do you have four plugs going to the rx ?

I think adding some bigger caps would have helped the setup,
But I never tried running a T120a on 6s yet.

Something is up here.. Operator error ? Thought savage has been around the block a couple times.
I've had a few goes thats for sure , there's nothing wrong with this set up , besides with it hitting 35 mph is kindda slow for this set up don't you think . 2 x 3 s = 6s

        You funny guy,
May be you need to sharpen and balance the prop better.

While I can't explain why the ESC's are smoking (other than 1700KV on 6S with that prop is a little over-ambitious) you should be, once everything is working correctly getting upwards of 70mph if it stays on its bottom. My 2006 NAMBA SAW record with a Drifter S was 34.1 mph with a brushed motor and 12 NIMH's so your setup has issues if you're only getting 35mph.. My 2013 NAMBA P-Ltd Offshore record with a Drifter S on 4S and a cheapie UL-1 motor was 67.771mph (with three fast passes at 71.xxxmph)

One thing that may need to be addressed is the well-known reputation of these ESC's to prematurely go into LVC cutoff mode (half throttle - sound about right?). They seem to monitor peak downspikes (which are fairly normal) instead of average voltage. Add to that the fact that you're using GensAce batteries which, when I tried them, collapsed easily under load. You might experiment with disabling the LVC (most all users of these 120's and 180's ultimately do that) and see what happens. Once you get your Drifter sorted out you'll have a really nice ride !

Your experience leads me to believe there is indeed a problem with the set up. As Properchopper stated you may be over taxing the 120 a bit.

Did the calibration process go smoothly? 35 is awfully slow for that power in a 26" cat. Maybe the esc wasn't running at 100%. That would cause it to heat up and subsequentially fail.

Pretty strange to have 2 NIB esc's fail.

Can you post a pic of how you had the BEC removed and the castle in its place?

Lenny I would guess the 4 plugs to the rx are 1 steering 2 throttle 3 BEC 4 I'm guessing the gps pulls power from the rx

              Len its a H&M Drifter 'S' 26" , wat was in it was 2x3s 5000 p220
The funny thing is these two boats are set up identical in power . The Drifter is lighter with the batteries installed in it and the AC has none . The AC Lightning ran really well on 6s with a p225 back cut and sb p by me , i'm thinking on the 1st bench test something let go in the motor . 1st esc got warm when plugged in , 2nd one i had a one minute run , nothing burnt up or bad smells , all out quit working , i plugged in in to see if the programs were still set the same they checked out ok .

Mike has brought up another good point ; the esc needs to see full throttle correctly calibrated from the Tx. Hold throttle wide open THEN connect batteries to calibrate. It helps if you have three hands

Getting the Drifter S dialed for the NAMBA P-Ltd Cat SAW record a few weeks ago : AQ UL-1 / T-120 with disarmed LVC / 4S2P Dinogy 65C/130C 3700 mah's. Almost there !

Yes it did on both esc's , well i sent it all back , i couldn't
even arm them . Could the newly installed pacemaker have effected this set up

The first time when I ran 6s with the SeaKing 120 was also the very last time I did that...
I am at least grateful that it did not let out the smell.
I have written that ESC off of my list as a possible 6s ESC.
Too many boats, not enough time...
