Etti 150 opto reversing problems

I have the Etti 150 opto ESC and I do have the manual, but a dumb question here would be why can't I seem to reverse the throttle on it? I don't have the motor coupled with the shaft yet but the throttle will not allow me to reverse the way the transmitter works. Every time I try to reverse the throttle the esc still won't operate when I pull the trigger. It only works when I push it.

I've tried to....
reverse the motor leads.
reverse the throttle on the Tx

Any ideas?
