    Cappack temperature

I have a brand new Sea King 180 Amp ESC. I've noticed the cappack is running quite hot after just a couple minutes of running. I'm running the ESC on 6S (two 3S 100C batts) The batteries have very few charge cycles on them. The motor and ESC temps are below 100 degress F. Questions about this:

    1. What is a normal temperature for the two capacitors on the ESC and the cappack?

    2. When should I be concerned?

    Thanks

    Jim

    We need more information.

    What does “quite hot” mean?
    What boat?
    What motor?
    What prop?
How long are the wires from pack to ESC?
    What gauge are the wires?
Do you run at a fairly constant speed or do you accelerate and slow down a lot while running?

      Quite hot = 160 degrees F
      Boat: Thunder Tiger Olympian
Motor: Thunder Tiger Ripper IBL - 40/20, 2000KV
Prop: OSE Aluminum CNC , 42MM 2.32 pitch
Wire: Approx 6 inches total from connectors through the cappack to the ESC
      Wire gauge: 10 AWG
Operated at 3/4 throttle for about 2 minutes fairly constant throttle including turns.

Wires are 2 inches long from the ESC to the cappack and 3-1/3 inches long from the cappack to the battry connectors. This is the factory configuration.

Some of the problem is all that part-throttle running, that is hard on the ESC. Running full throttle reduces ESC temperatures. Another issue is the excessive Kv for the voltage, even with the small prop. That?s SAW rpm, over 40,000 loaded. That Kv is better suited for 4S to 5S regardless of what TT says. Just not a good combination for a large 39? boat intended for sport running.
