    Seaking 180 bec Problem

Long story short got 2 of these ESC almost 2 years ago so I'm not sure what version they are V2 , V3 ? One was for a Spartan with OSE upgrades 4082 1600kv . I'm not a builder so I took to local hobby shop for build and I think they knew less then me ? They called me to say when they plugged in battery it sparked bad and had no ideal why and could not work on it anymore ( doors were closed for good 3 months later ) so near 2 years later a friend that is a good at working on rc stuff looked at it and it was wired wrong on ESC AND harness they built for it . Rewired it and replaced black out 6mm bullet on ESC side and used 4s to test it to see if ESC was fried or not from Hobby Shop and first 2s everything good second 2s and bec smokes ? Other ESC went in a Genesis and has never been powered so we took out rewired harness put in Genesis and powered it up and its fine and armed . Went back to Spartan tried again and when 2nd battery is plugged in bec starts smoking ? So is it possible that the ESC is ok and its just bec that got hurt ? If so I looked on site for just bec did not see it any ideals what to do next ?

    Thanks

You can put a separate BEC or 6v battery(4 AA's) in to power radio gear and ESC.

BTW, a 4s battery may spark when plugged into ESC.

How do you know its the BEC that is smoking because its inside the actual ESC. And when you say wired wrong did they flip-flop the power and grounds? That will burn up a controller real quick doing that. Steve carries BEC's in the store. Ive just been running Turnigy ones with good results

I would try the AA battery thing to test it as it is easy. Once it is verified then move to the next step.

Thought it was a bec ? where the wires come off the ESC looks like a small circuit board ? They had the male female turned around on housing of bullet so that when you matched them up to plug together it was backwards ? If I remember right when we tested it with one 2s the ESC did detect it ?

Those are capacitors on the power and ground wires, NOT the BEC, and the circuit board is a diode. I always remove those and put a good cap bank on it like an Etti one. Like stated you could use some AA batteries to make sure the controller even works still. If the power and grounds got hooked up backwards I bet it got cooked
