Interesting find with a castle esc

So I thought the 120% throttle travel thing only applied to swordfish. Well maybe not. I was reading on my castle logger program last night and noticed it said most radios will show 2.0ms on the logger for full throttle. I noticed mine usually read 1.92s or 1.934ms. I noticed it said "most" radios will read 2.0ms. So what I did to test this theory is I plugged in 2s and squeezed the trigger full throttle for a short time. (I know I know, no full throttle without a load, well it's really low rpm so it's not going to hurt it). I took note of rpm. Unplug battery to create another session. Then tried different percentages on throttle travel. Actually lost 400rpm having it at 120% because it was a bit over 2.0ms. When I figured out that it didn't like it above or below 2.0ms, I settled at 118% and gained 920rpms. That equates to a couple thousand rpms at full running voltage unloaded. Sometimes the small things count too!

Would this cover all Castle ESC's, or only the model that you are using??
I do not have logging with my Castle Hydra's.

I just set them so the light is on steady the last 1/16" of travel on the trigger.

I'm going to be honest, I don't know. But what really caused me to check this is I read a post the other day on here about someone (don't remember who) said they always set their castles to 120%. So I checked the only one I have with logging. I do have an ice 120 in my rigger, I should be running it tomorrow with a Gps in it. I'll make a pass like it is then I'll make in with it at 118% and report back. Note: I have a Spektrum dx4s do this may or may not work on other radios.

Mm mm, out to the workspace I go! I must look into this Travis. I am just playing with my twin mono again and something does seem off. I can't place it yet but I'll check this now too. Thanks for the heads up

When I bind my ESC's to the transmitter, I set the Forward and the Brake to 110%
After binding, I turn down the Brake to about 30%, and turn up the Forward so the light comes on solid about 1/16" before full stroke.

Sounds good, sounds like your close enough. On my particular esc (xl2) it took 118% to get mine to wot.

Ok Larry, I think I have a definitive answer for you. My rigger has a ice 120 in it. I ran it like normal for three packs. (I've been doing this all day). The fastest I got at 100% was 64.5mph. Then I set to 118% and ran it the same way. Same battery. Same voltage as I charged it up. So everything was the same. First time out it went 65.9mph which is the fastest this setup in this boat has gone, ever. (For me). So as far as I can tell, it helps. I also went from 105% to 120% in my shocker and it picked up over 1mph. I didn't even charge the batts on that one. Ran it. Checked. Changed percent. Ran again. Faster.

                  I just checked my transmitter,
                  Out of 7 boats.
                  2 - were set at 110%
                  3 - were set at 114%
                  2 - were set at 115%

I am taking 2 or 3 of them with me next week to FL
I will play with the % settings then and get back to you
I know a couple of the guys have GPS's

Is this just for castle ESCs? Anyone notice things like this using T180s? I am using Radio Link RC3S tx, R4EH rx. Any information would be great. Either way, I think I will just need to test for it.

From what I remember it didn't help on a t180. Luckily when you program those they are accurate. So far I've found my sf300, my ice 120 and my mamba xl2 benefit from this. However, I have not Gps confirmed it on the xl2, only seen higher Rpms in data logging while under no load. I'll need to confirm it speed wise with that one, I tried to yesterday but that boat is too fast for the conditions I was running in. It's 60 degrees today, sunny, not windy...near perfect conditions but I don't think I'll be able to get out there today
