    esc motor compatability question

can i run any brushless motor with a brushless esc as long as it does not exceed the max voltage and current ratings?
i may run a 380 size motor with a esc rated for 550 motors. thanks, Don

Yes, for sure. The other way round has more pitfalls.

I really don't understand why Neu keeps having issues with MGM ... Bugfix anyone? No? Lame. If a china esc's like Swordfish, seaking's, etc do fine with them... obviously apples to oranges but for a $300+ esc... come on.
Then again it is well known to work best with Lehners.

Steven: What does MGM say about this issue when you contact them about it? Are they even aware of it?

Are they frying the motor's, ESC's or both?

I've read a few times about this but never experienced it and never read anyone being specific about it. I have seen plenty of other people run an mgm with a neu and never have an issue. The problem I think is maybe the pole count isn't set to the correct count in the mgm software. Iirc the default is 2 pole (lehner is 2 pole). So make sure you set it up correctly. There's also some other parameters that can be changed that may affect it. I have a couple 25035's and I can throw one in my Rivercat to re-confirm it but I don't see it having an issue. I also ran one on a 6 pole motor for a while and didn't have an issue. Is this just a rumor, or can someone confirm it with their own actual experience?

The pole count setting on mgm escs is for data logging/rpm measurement. The problem with some escs and certain 4-pole motors has to do with the magnets used in the motors and quality of back-emf. It can be an issue with one batch of motors and not others, depending again on the consistency of magnets used. It is not isolated to neu motors, and many have had similar issues with schulze escs as well.
