    Water proofing ESC

Hi I know this has gone around before,I have 200A ESC from RCBB, I had to cut it open to do repair ,now I need to re seal, has anyone dipped one in rubber coating? My concern is that the circuit boards are exposed and would be covered in rubber that may have chemicles in it that are not good, maybe shrink wrap and seal like it was?got pin holes in the shrink wrap which was the problem ,I have some of that spray on bubber too,any ideas ?

re-shrink it and plug the ends with RTV

I like to have the heatsink exposed instead of inside a heat shrink, even though the ESC may come that way. Mask off the heatsink, and use Plast-Dip spray and spray the ESC. It will not harm your ESC as many, as I, use this method. This way your ESC's heatsink will be exposed and run cooler. To make the wires look nice where the spray goes over on the ends, place heat shrink tubing and shink them for a clean look.

This is how I did my YGE ESC. Simple, effective and clean.

YGE is a speed controller. They go by YEP also.

I use permatex 5 minute clear two part epoxy. My rigger filled up with water a couple weeks ago (trusty ole tape ya know) and it works just fine. Castle 120 hydra. We all know that if you get one drop of water on it, it's done. I do this on everything. Receivers. Servos. Escs. No the epoxy doesn't affect the cooling. Let me ask, how much air movement do you REALLY think you have in an rc boat hull? How bout a rigger? None. I let the esc work the way it was designed......being cooled by water. I have a hard time wrapping my thoughts around the fact that leaving the heat shrink off would do anything? Really? Look at a swordfish 240 pro. It's encapsulated in rubber. That's a pretty stout and reliable esc. Look at the sf300 in the metal case. Same thing. I've burned a lot less escs that were coated vs none coated. Main failure I've seen is water getting to it. Let's face it, as water tight as you may thing your boat is, sooner or later water is getting in. Be it from a bad tape job, a broken flex at the collet (had that happen) hitting something and cracking the hull...you name it...it can happen. Better safe than sorry. Plasti dip and those spray rubber coatings and dips, they end up shrinking and tearing...I speak from experience. Your best bet is epoxy.

                  Water proofing ESC

This is my YEP 150 that I water proofed and water cooled today, certainly not pretty but I hope it will work well in my 3 cell Lindenau Mono 1. The cooling plates are made from copper and have been glued to the FETS using Artic Silver 2 part adhesive, then the esc was coated with servisol silicone and heat shrink to finish it off.
