    Gary - This is going to sound weird, but my FCR 140 / 160 /240 ESC's (early models) needed 12 seconds of Tx full throttle after powering up every time before they linked. Be prepared to release 'cause it links at WOT

        I hook up a separate Rx pack, get radio signal, then hook up the main battery. If this fails you can hold full reverse till it arms. Here are the instructions,

        Tech Note for ALL Marine Version ESC's

        If you are running a pistol grip radio and wish to use the forward only mode;

        Set theTx Throttle channel trim to zero and use a 50/50 trigger setting.

        New installation:

        First program the ESC with reverse = yes. (factory default)
        Power on the ESC, this will allow the ESC to calibrate the ESC.
        Power off the ESC
        Power on the ESC, then set reverse = no
        Power on the ESC, it should now know the tx and be calibrated to 50% + as the full swing.

        Troubleshooting:

        IF you have tried the above steps and problems arming the ESC with a Pistol grip radio still persist;
        Hold the throttle to full reverse for 12 seconds. It will then arm. Release the throttle when the motor spins.

        IF you are having issues with a "delay" in throttle response, try using a logarithmical throttle curve and hard acceleration.

        IF you are having issues with the throttle "staying on" as you let off the accelerator, you can re-calibrate the ESC and Tx by holding the throttle at full, plug in the power, wait for the beeps to stop and then release the throttle so the ESC can arm.

        IF you still encounter full throttle before the trigger reaches full, change the throttle set point to 1.9 or 2.0ms. Default is 1.7ms, early in the trigger swing. This will help with a more linear feel.

        Manual Calibration: (one time proceedure - Use if you hit full RPM before full swing of the trigger)

        With the motor hooked up and tx/rx hooked up, power on the ESC with the throttle full. (squeezed)

        Wait for the tones to stop after a short melody and release the trigger to neutral swiftly.

        The ESC should then beep once for no-reverse and twice if reverse is on to signify it is armed.

        NOTE* Some transmitters require the throttle channel to be reversed.
