    Castle hydra 120 esc??

I've read some on this esc. Fro what I've read, it says anything over 3s. I need an external bec. I plan on running it at 4s, so would I need an external bec? And if I do which bec is a good one? I've never had a boat before, and this is my first one. So thanks for the help

I have 2 boats that use the 240A Hydra ESC and the manual on the 240 says 3S is max for the internal bec. On those boats I use this external BEC-- never had any issues:

I run 4S2P on a Mean Machine with the Castle 120 ESC with no issues. I use 4 AA Duracell batteries providing plenty of torque to the steering servo. The batteries seem to last an entire season. You can use an add addional Battery wire connector between the battery pack and the receiver, making for a quick connect and disconnect between different boats.

I run RX packs in my boat without BEC, and plan on using more in the future. You can get either nimh, nicad or Life, some say you could blow rx's on life but I've never had that problem on over 5 rx's (different brands). The advantage to them is it's okay if they get a little wet, even submerged, and it's one plug, not a mess of wiring to get it all hooked up. They also cost about the same or even less so that's another pro, the only con I can think of is that you have to charge it.
