    4 Turnigy ESC goes halfspeed.....

    Hi

I'm new with the boat bug.
I have a serious ( for me :-) problem. In my first boat I have build from scrath, I'm using 2 60A ESC from Turnigy with 2 Leopard 28/58 - 2880KV motors and 2 3S 5000mah C20-30 batteries. Radio is a Hitec Agressor CRX 40mhz.

My problem is that after I programmed the ESC - seems to work well - I got to the lake and then....only 50% rpm's.
    - I have programmed them 1 and 1 and then i used a Y cable.

When I gor home I checked the motors KV with my RPM/KV reader. It was only 50% rpm's on both of them.

Then I programmed the Throttle Range setting on the transmitter.
    - Moved the trotteltrigger to the maximum position and then connected the battery pack to the ESC. After 2 sec, 2 beeps can be heard. Then I release the trotteltrigger to the neutral position and hear beep......beep,beep,beep.
According to the instructions for the ESC there should only be one beep after the trotteltrigger is released to neutral.
I wonder if the first beep I here is the one mentioned in the instructions and the 3 beep's after is the lipo count ?

Then I tested both ESC's with 2 diffrent motors. Same results, 50% rpm's on the motors.

I then programmed the ESC's again, 1 by 1 with the same results only 50% rpm's.
    - first I used a programming card then the transmitter.

I tested basiclly all settings regarding Running mode, Lipo Cells, Low Voltage Cutoff and Timing.
    Still only 50% rpm's...

I then orderd 2 new 120A Turnigy ESC's .....I was out of idears, and why not for the future..:-)
Got them. Programmed the Throttle Range settings on the transmitter then the ESC's 1 by 1.
    Same problem only 50% rpm's !!!
    - then I was about to cry...

Called in a friend that did i all over again with the same results. Only 50% rpm's from both of them.
    - first we used a programming card version 2 then the transmitter.

Then we used a seprat battery for the reciver, just in case, then an extra capacitator in the 3 ch, then 3 diffrent 3S batteries ( C rate 30-50)
    Still only 50% rpm's.

    Then I tested with a new 2,4 ghz handgun-style radio....Still only 50% rpm's from all 4 of them !!!
    - then I cryed...

    Questions:
Anybody had the same kind of problem with a ESC ? Turnigy ?
There is a Reset button on the programcard I have used a lot of times. Is there another way to reset it as much as possible ?

Programming the Throttle Range setting on the transmitter.

I have a Genesis cat with a Turnigy 180A ESC without any problems using the same radio and programcard version 2.

    Henrik,

Program the Low Voltage Cutoff Threshold (item 3) to (1) : "No Protection" and watch your runtimes carefully to not overdraw your batteries. This works for all of the T-180's.

Turn the throttle trim on your radio all the way up, then try it

Have you checked the programming/ throttle curve on your TX? maybe it's the programming that's limiting to 50%, also check your DR or EXPO.

              Hi

I have had some vacation and a lot of work. But now I will try again to solve my ESC issues.
              Bought 2 Swordfish 120A ESC.
              Same problem......still only 50% of the rpm's.
I will now find a rc doctor in a club who can help me...

Never mind. I realy like this, so I'm thinking of a HPR C5009 for this fall-winter. Love the building and running :-)

              Best regards Henrik

No. I haven't got any idears left for the moment.
It realy puzzels me. It's 3 diffrent ESC's Turnigy 60A and 120A + Swordfish 120A that behaves the same way. I tryed the most things regarding the radio but it could be something with the radio.
I don't use exp, ABS or anything except default settings with the pistolgrip Hitec Agressor CRX 40mhz.

The radio works perfect with my 180A Turnigy....Why ???
I even tryed diffrent 4S batteries 4000 mah 40C to be sure there was enough punch from the beginning. Still only 50 % kvm.

I resently tryed a cheap HK 2,4 ghz pistolgrip radio. Same problem...
I may be doomed on this problem...;O(

I hope somebody here with more experience then me, may find a solution :O)

                  Best regards Henrik

Since you mention this I have been facing the same issue on my seaking 60A in my Rio Ep cutting to 50% almost immediatly starting to run full throttle. Hopefully something can be identified besides lipo cut off because I'm going to try that next myself.

it could be the motor, don't see why but..
try the same setup but swap out the motor.

                        Hi

I tryed with 4 diffrent motors 28/58 2 pole, 28/45 2 pole, 28/58 6 pole and 40/74 4 pole because as you say, why not...
                        Still the same.
Thank you that you mensioned the motors. I will do some sort of excel diagram to sort out what I did and didn't, when I get the time.
Tryed the lipo cutoff on 2,8 3,0 3,2 3,4 and off.
                        Still the same.

                        Best regards Henrik

                            Hi Henrik,

I am having the same problem with my Turnigy 120. I installed it in my DF29, went 1 lap at full throttle then it died. Let off the trigger, went back to full throttle and only get 1/2 speed now. I'm using a 2.4 Tactic radio. I have the program card as well. Haven't had a chance to set the LVC to off. I will re-program and try this weekend with a different motor as well.

I realy hope you don't have the same problem. If you solve it, I will be bery intressted in how :O)
                              - I will try reversing the second channel again as jkr wrote abow in the weekend and get back with the result.
