    Turnigy 180A ESC Issues

I just bought a pair of these, threw one in my Supercat, ran for a few minutes, peaked at 77A and put it away for the day. Was running on 4S.

Then today when I pulled it out to go run again I plug it up and all it does is beep occaisonally, no motor, no servo. Nothing. I try to reprogram etc...nothing. Then by accident I plug an RX pack into my RX to test the receiver and suddenly the ESC arms, RX comes on, servo and motor works...

Does that mean the internal BEC dead?

I know these things are cheap as sh... but is that a common failure with them? I'd prefer to not run an RX pack, but oh well if I do I do no biggie.

Actually, they're inexpensive, not cheap. IMO they are one of the best lv esc's on the market. Not sure why your bec failed. I NEVER run the bec on any boat over 3s. A R/X pack or ubec is the best way to go.

You are right, not cheap, inexpensive. Maybe I just got one with a bum BEC. I may just get one of those little castle BEC's and not run the rx pack cost is about the same and then I don't have to have yet another battery to keep charged.

I also have 2 of these esc's, very nice but I blew one of the becs while just bench testing.
Steering servo wasn't even connected to the rudder.
I think we need to use these with rx batt or Ubec to be safe..

Same problem here. I've had a couple blow the BEC. Not sure why. Seems to be a weak point in the ESC.

but you need to put the red wire back on when using the program box right?
