wire length

If wires from battery to esc were say 6" or so with connectors, would I gain anything substainal and would it be worth it if I could shorten them to 4"? Curious rookie.

6" in total length, no not really. Yes, power wire length is an important issue and if they're too long it creates capacitance in the wire and ripple currents which is very bad for the ESC. Cap banks soldered close to the ESC can help mitigate the ripple currents, so can shortening the wire leads.
