    Auto-disconnect discharger

I've been using light bulbs for years to discharge batteries since the old Ni-Cads SCE cells were stored drained. Now with lipo's sometimes I end up with charged packs that I didn't use for some reason or another and need to be put back into storage mode.
My PL8's will do it but internal discharge is limited unless you are regenerative discharging into a LA battery. And the heat generated can't be good for the long life of the chargers.
The pain with light bulb dischargers and lipo's is watching and disconnecting at exactly the right time and not forgetting and ruining the pack. There is a thread I've been following on RCGroups for a DIY disconnect using a CellLog lipo monitor and a relay but I never got around to building one.
Now MYRCMart has come out with these 3 in 1 balancer, discharger, volt meters for up to 6s for $13. They use 3 x 24v bulbs for discharge and you can set the cutoff voltage between 2.0v and 4.2v.

myrcmart.com is your first and best source for all of the information you’re looking for. From general topics to more of what you would expect to find here, myrcmart.com has it all. We hope you find what you are searching for!

I picked up two of them and made a mount for the bulbs from some angle aluminum. I tried a couple 4s packs that needed to be put into storage and they worked great balancing and discharging down to my set 3.85v faster than I was expecting. Each unit has 3 bulbs that come on as needed. Pretty cool I give it a thumbs up lol. I think I might add a wire mesh cover to make it portable enough to take to a race.

Pretty cool. What kind of draw/how many watts will it pull?

Edit: clicked on the link, says 50 watts for one model, 150w for the other.

I thought it would take longer than it did but I think it's close to the same draw as the PL8 10 amp max on internal discharge. 150w/14.4v = 10.41 amps if I have my math right for 4s.

        Great Find pescador.
I was using an esc/servo tester/old EDF setup to discharge my LiPo's, but had to monitor the voltage readings separately. I couldn't help myself and hit the "Buy Now" button for the 150W setup, so this should make things allot easier. Thanks for the link...

Just ordered a pair myself, thanks for the link been waiting to come across something like this. Hopefully some will come out that are capable of higher discharge eventually, but this is great for now. I bring so many packs to the pond, and sometimes I get shut out by wind or fishermen, this will make things easier for sure.

Well, mine arrived (150W version), and I'm very happy with it. I only ordered one just in case it wasn't exactly what I was after, but it's a good thing, so I'm ordering another one!!!

Mine showed a max of 3.8A (75W) discharge from a 5000mah 5Cell 20C pack, but it worked very well.
I fitted it to a PVC box, making allowances for the second one to arrive.

So, all in all, I'm pretty happy with the results; Thanks pescador...
