    4s, 5s, and 6s Battery Recommendations?

    OSE Fam,

I am always looking for ways to improve performance and to get the best bang for my money so I wanted to get you thoughts on some solid 4s and 6s batteries. I am aware of the following brands at this time and would welcome insight on ALL Brands including your opinions on the ones listed below:

Dinogy, Turnigy Nano Tech, Turnigy A-SPEC, Venom, Sky Lipo, Gen Ace, and Thunder Power

Please share your thoughts, I am really interested as well in the durability / lastability (if thats a word LOL ).

My personal experience and what I have observed from club members:

Dinogy - my current preference. Super performance, reasonable price for high performance use.
Turnigy Nano Tech - three club members have burned up sets of these in 10S boats with the same setups which were fine using ThunderPowers. Decent low amp draw batteries.
ThunderPower - I used these for years with great success as did other club members. High price, and a couple years ago quality started dropping, I no longer buy them.

Fluid.... Who sells the Dinogy Batteries? Can you refer me to that person or website? Thanks

Any other brands you can recommend that are not listed?

Contact MarkF on OSE or go here: http://dinogylipos.com/

Hyperions have also worked very well but are a bit higher cost than Dinogys. I haven't seen any others I can recommend - but I haven't seen them all either.

I have recently bought Dinogy packs. Have a good 3 weekends of T n T at the lake with them.I also have a set of Nano Techs from Turnigy. Way noticable difference between the 2 mfrs. Defenitely consider the Dinogys for sure.

I've been running venom. Overpriced for what you get, but good warranty. Then a member turned me on to spc lipos several months back. The build quality at first glance is better than venom. So I put them to the test this weekend. Picked up 2mph with the spc batteries. Power wires are 10ga on spc, 12 ga on venom just for comparison. They balance perfect at 4.20 every time and drain withing .01v. The guy who owns the company is a very nice and easy to deal with fellow. I needed a single cell for something I'm doing, called him up and told him what I was doing and he just sent it to me for shipping cost. That's my battery of choice. The prices are so cheap, you'll be stunned.

I had some of those SPC packs saved in my browser and lost it?
I really want to try those packs in a few of my boats

Right now the top of my list for big power are the Magnum Lipos from Buzz out of Denver
They have posted the highest speeds by way of gps in my race boats and come back cooler and a better balance between the cells than any other pack I own right now

I have several of the LNE Giant Power / Dinogy packs and Bob Z of Mojoracing has some great pricing.. you can tell him I sent you

I have had somewhat different results than others...I suppose there is always a variable of what "batch" your lipos come from, or when you used them. Some manufacturers start with the good stuff to establish a name, then switch cell suppliers later on.
                  I have found the following:

Dinogy 65c: Robust, good performance. Make sure you store them at nominal voltage. The Dinogys I have used were very sensitive to how they were stored.

Nano Tech 65c: Among the most robust, lower quality control/cell matching at times. These can perform at a very high level but in my experience do not last long.

Thunder Power: Good at one time but something definitely changed...now just overpriced without the performance to back it up.

Hyperion: Similar to TP, I think these guys may have switched cell manufacturers. They aren't what they used to be.

Revolectrix HV427 70C: These held the highest voltage under load of any lipo I've tested. Specifically, 3.6v/cell at 380A with a 4200mah lipo (about 2 second duration). Cell chemistry is a bit different than the norm and new to the RC market, so longevity has not been proven. For me they have done well so far but I really don't have the opportunity to run that often so they haven't seen much use.

Glacier RC 30C: I never hear anyone in FE mention these, but a friend of mine runs these in his planes with good results. His testing actually showed better power output than one of the popular 65C brands on the list.

Another one I would love to try are the Revo HV packs
did you charge them to the HV limit or just to 4.2v per cell ?

and another bang for the buck for me Gens Ace 25C packs.. same I believe as the Glacier packs

I like gens ace. I'm a nosey person. Like to see how things are made. Every name brand lipo I've owned, I've opened at least one of them. Gens ace is built well. Something different about them tho. They have a small circuit board with a solder trace on it to act like a fuse I think, which is good and bad. Good for the time you burn an esc and have a dead short (this happened to me) so it didn't kill the battery. It just melted the solder trace. Bad for the un-electrically inclined guy that thinks he destroyed a good battery because it no longer reads anything. But hey....would you rather a fire? Not me! All the other packs I've opened were soldered at the tab coming out the cell. The tab well burn too....the problem is it likely is un repairable once that happens. If there's still some tab sticking out....good luck soldering it unless you have an air free environment. I've been able to do it, but it's a pain in the ass.

Has anyone converted hard packs to soft packs? I do most of my batteries. More compact and lighter. I do one layer of black, foam in the end on the wire side, carbon plate on the bottom side, both as protection in case they are dropped. Then the label is heated up on the case and transferred to the black shrink. Then clear shrink over that so they stay looking new.

I use clear on all my packs to help keep them looking new longer

dinogy are great and so are giant power (I believe they are actually the same cells) from mojoracingproducts.com prices are similar but Mojos prices are a couple bucks cheaper. I use only these 2 brands.
