    charger cuts out?

    Hi Guys,

Ive got two chargers, a 10a charger and a 5a charger hooked up to a Hobbyking 25a power supply, its been fine for a couple of months but now its doing something weird, if i try and charge at 10a it resets itself back to the charge screen after a few seconds, this ONLY happens when i try and charge over 8a aand doesnt do it if i link it to a car battery.

This led me to think the power supply was causing the issue, however if i link both chargers up to the power supply (two outputs) i can still only use 8a off the main charger and the other maxed out at 5a so i am a bit stumped? i dont want to send the charger back if the power supply is to blame, any ideas?

Need a bit more info. What brand and model charger, and what is the output wattage rating. What is the voltage of the power supply? And what are the packs you're charging? It sounds like the power supply voltage may be dropping below the limit as the charger ramps up the current. Can you set the input voltage minimum on the charger?

I think that Kevin is on the money.
See what the minimum input voltage alarm/cutout is set at & reduce it down a bit.
Then put both chargers on with the max settings & batteries that you normally do and measure the output voltage of the Power Supply with a DDM. You may only have a few seconds to get the measurement so be ready as soon as you start the charge sequences. If it is dropping below 13.8V then it is a PS problem.
See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!

Actually, I would expect it to drop below 13.8,. The description of the charger says it has low voltage protection to protect your car battery at the field, so factory setting may be close to the 13.8v, but it also says it will take a 10v input. Get into the settings and lower the minimum to 10v and see if it helps.

The specs on the charger indicate 220V-240V input. Are you powering it up with that ?

Yep the HK power supply is 240v (standard in the UK)

Charge at 2C and see what happens.
