batts is too hot! please help!

    Hello Everyone,

I'm from the land of the downunder, not new to RC but very newbie in the RC Boating scene.

I run a HK pursuit. As you know they dont come with the best built quality from factory. When i got it, all hardware were dissamantled and reinstalled with epoxy, regreased.......and all the neccessary preparation.

    The electric setup are:
    Leopard 4074 2200kv
    Turnigy Marine 180A
445 plastic prop (i know....this will do for now)
    2x Zippy 5400mah 2S 50C (in series for 4S)

I get about 5-7 mins of runtime and decent speed. Infact, am very happy with the way it is.

The only thing troubles me is as per title, my battery get too hot to touch after each run. The plastic case around battery terminal had warp due to excess heat. (See pic)

can anyone help how i can reduce the batt temp?

I have temp gun, but keep forgetting to bring it

oh....the motor and ESC are very cool to touch after run.

    thanks in advance.

You are running it too long. When you recharge it should only take 80% MAX of the battery capacity.

You are running your batteries to low...allow for 20% at least to be left in the batteries.

Cooling the batteries is not an option.

Set your LVC on the controller to around 3.2V....this might help you save your batteries.....you probably have already done damage to them so their life span might be already shortened.

As been said your running your batteries to low, you should only need to put 4300mah max back in on recharge to have used 80%. They also look like hard case lipos that if they do get to hot dont let the heat out as easy as shrink wrap lipos. Are you also running 7-8 mins continuosly which obviously wont help with temps.

Most of the heat created is going to be at the end of your run when the batteries start to dump their charge. Things get hot fast when they can no longer supply the motors needs. As said above, shorten run times.

                      Hey guys,

weather had cooled down abit lately, so i manage to get the boat out for a run.

After increasing the cuttoff voltage to 3.2V, (as per you guys advice here) The result had inproved, they are now measuring 62degC.

Still abit hot to my comfort i think...... but atleast i can hold it, and the plugs isnt melting away.

Next time out, i might put it up to 3.4V cuttoff.

When these packs dies, i'll go for 5.5mm bullets

thanks again for the help guys.

Just a note, the reason why you need to maintain 20% for lipos is to prevent the voltage in the packs from dropping too low-- if they get too low, it kills the packs. It not just a heat issue.

Buy some max amps batteries and get dual cooling system.
