    Is 12s uncommon?

I will at some point be building bigger, faster boats. I currently have 4 good TP 65c 6s 5000mah batts, but it seems to me many of the builds I have noticed are 10s, and very few are 12s. Can I work with what I have, or should I pull the trigger on some 5s batts now, as I found a good deal on them?

Voltage over 10S is not covered by the insurance of either IMPBA or NAMBA. You can't race a boat with over 10S voltage. Equipment for 12S and 14S has been tough to find in the past and was/is expensive. Those are the main reasons you don't see too many boats over 10S. Oh, it is also more dangerous.

You could always buy 4s packs to add to the 6s to make 10 instead of buying 5s packs.

What Fluid said. Either org. only allows up to and including 10S.

there is also a max. length of hulls as well. (will have to look at the rule book to see.)

          Move to Australia, mate. !
Australian FE rules allow 12S1P to a max cell weight of 165gm each.... cheaper and less dangerous than 10S2P 10,000mah .

Good feedback guys, thanks. I'm not overly concerned with race rules as of now, mostly sport running at first, and Dana, it occured to me to add in my 4s packs after I posted, thanks.
BTW, Amainhobbies.com has a bunch of Thunder Powers on sale right now, 65c 5s 5000mah are $143.

Because of MAP, the price doesn't show til it's in your cart.

Every weekend bud! As long as the track isn't too soggy or covered in snow. I'm working tomorrow morning, but hoping to be home by noon.........

i personally wouldn't run a 4s and a 6s in series. I used to do 5s with a 2s and a 3s but one cell would always run hotter, one day i let the magic smoke out of a pack running like that and ever since then i've been hesitant to run cells that aren't exactly the same cell count and mah. In a bigger boat balance might not be as big an issue but you also have to consider one side would be heavier, you could run 6s on the port side and 4s on the starboard for torque roll, but that is mainly an acceleration issue

Snow is the summits friend lol. Hope I can make it down sometimes and tear up the track

As far as balance, what I am thinking is a paralell setup, with a 6s and 4s in series on each side, and cog could be manipulaed by putting the 6s in front or behind the 4s.

12s is overkill. You should be able to get all you need out of 10s.
12s is dangerous as well. Its something to work your way up to at best. When you're ready for that voltage, you'll know what to run.

P.S. Nice track! Great BMX style jumps!

Kevin I run several 12s set-up's with out any issues. BUT I run high dollar equipment, Lenher, NEU, Schulze, Sordfish. "Current Problem" is on 12s. this years top gun shootout winner, Had her to 110mph on a few passes, Next year stepping her up to 15S right at the max voltage and amp load for my set up. The shoot out course is short and does not leave much turning room, found out how poorly a MHZ Drambuie on ice turns in decel from 90mph, she dont she roll's over. So I need to get it aired out, trimmed and flat have about 100yrds to get her wound up then shut down.
Top Gun 2011, "current problem" 88MPH. Top Gun 2014 "Marine One" 99 MPH. bet speed to date 125 MPH
