Ok guys, please tell me what causes lipos to puff up. It still seems to charge ok on my balance charger but it looks bad. It's a turnigy 4s 5000mah

toss it in some saltwater if its puffed its toast, complete risk to run it again.Lipos puff usually cause of an inability to supply the amps you are trying to pull.u may need to investigate the setup carefully dude.

Check them very close. The shrink on the Turnigy's will puff from heat but not the cells. I have some that appear to be slightly puffed but are just fine and have been using them and have charged them several times.

I have a pair of Turnigy 3 cell 5000mAh batteries that puffed up over winter last year. Feels like the shrink is under pressure but the cells aren't puffed up. They seem to charge OK but I don't know if it it's safe to run them. Don't want to blow up the boat.

                Hi,
Can you post some pictures of them ?
May be it is just one cell that is puffed in each pack.
If so, They could be made into 2s packs or something,
Or used for parts may be.

Like egnef said, the shrink will make it look puffed but just look at it from the back end where you can see the stack of cells. If they look like an oval, keep a close eye on them. You don't want this to happen, my buddy took a chance and almost lost his boat. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1353632767.591617.jpg

Puffed batteries usually feel soft and squishy. I've had pleanty of puffed Thunderpowers that charged and ballanced just fine and I had no problems running them. The key is making sure they still ballance. Also make sure there not to hot after a run. Thats another sign there junk and shouldn't be used.

Sorry to hijack...I have a seriously puffed old Dynamite 4s to dispose of. Its been sitting outside on gravel, undercover for a month now because I don't want to burn down my house. Is putting it in a bucket of seawater the way to make it safe to dispose at the recycle center?
                        Thanks,
