    Newby lipo questions

Just realized I may have bought the wrong batteries. Advice please...

Just picking up my new Proboat Impulse 31(bone stock) tomorrow and realized that I bought parallel batteries instead of straight serial. Here are the specs:

    Turnigy 5000mAh 40C 2S1P batteries (bought two).

I meant to buy the same battery but in the 2S version (not P). Do I need a speacial wiring harness when connecting batteries or can I just plug them into the stock setup? What different will I notice between the Serial batteries and the Parallel version? Speed? Run times?

**I will be wiring 5.5mm connectors as well if that makes a difference.

    5.5mm connectors by must.
Just connect your lipos by following the instruction and off you go....!
You got the right staff for your stock set up.

Just as lipopower says, you are good to go with those. you bought 2 batteries... each a 2 cell (2S) pack. Stock conections should be set up already to do the rest, which is hook the two batteries in series to make a complete 4S pwer system.... Make sense?

I have a question what is the difference between (2) 2s batts hooked in series or (2) 4s batts hooked in paraelle? Or even just one 4s batt? Power would be the same correct just a longer run time with the (2) 4s batts? How much more weight would the (2) 4s be over the (2) 2s batts?

          Bill,

You need to read alot of the threads about batteries... i don't want to recreate another thread. There are so many.... But to keep it really simple

Series= stacking cell on cell on cell on cell. So you add all the voltages but the capacity of each stays the same.
Parallel= you have two battery packs (each in series within itself) but the packs are connected in parallel. Then you share the voltage, so the voltage is the same for each pack and in combination, but you add/pool the capacities.

          Hope it helps a bit...

But really, please read, read and read.

I understand about the series and paraelle part just not really sur ehow the weight difference comes into play. In other words what is the weight difference between a 2s battery and a 4s battery?

You have 2 extra cells so the weight doubles.... (assuming you are comparing same manufacturer and capacity)

the weight is something to determine as well as length width and height when buying your batts some applications will only allow you to fit up to a certain size battery into your rig.

These are being used in an AM Scorpion mono and I'm trying to keep it on the water even for SAW runs I guess it is just too light so I'm looking ot add some useable weight before just adding lead. Thank you for the replies. I've been model boating nitro and Gas since 1986 just trying out the FE aspect of it now.
