    DYI battery connectors

    Gang
Has anyone ever made a battery to ESC connector that bolted together? My thought is take a flat brass bar about 1/8 thick by 1/4 wide and 1/2 or so long attach a battery wire to one end and make the same type connector and attach the ESC to it. These bars have two holes in them and are clamped together with a 4/40 screws and nuts. Another way would to take a 5/16 sq brass bar and mill a 1/8 or so slot in it for 3/4 inch and make a fork. You would then insert a flat 1/8 brass bar in the slot in the fork and via two screw holes through them clamp the fork and bar together. It is easier to take apart than bullet connectors and the contact area is a flat surface or surfaces (in the case of the fork connector) mechanically held together witch will not loosen after repeated disassembly. The assemblys could be made of square or round stock.

Whats wrong with bullet connectors. No need to reinvent the wheel.

For one thing they are too hard to put together and take apart especially if you are using the larger sizes like I am. The other is I read in more than a few posts about them getting hot and the contact area doesn't seem to be very large. Just a thought.

What happens the next time you bring your boat in with a wet radio and the motor goes to full throttle as you un-tape it? You can pull bullets apart, but by the time you unbolt your complicated connectors, the motor and ESC are probably toast. If your connectors are "too hard" to plug/unplug, fix them. If the connectors get "hot" then they are too small for the application or are soldered poorly (more likely the latter).

All that messing around sounds like an ideal recipe for shorting something out! I couldn't imagine trying to get something like that assembled in the confined spaces inside a boat. How do you plan on insulating the connectors?
Personally have never had an issue with proper sized/soldered bullets heating up nor any difficulty unplugging them.
I've standardized all my stuff to bigger bullets than I really need, never know when I might try a different class and will still want to use my accessories without changing bullets.
Keep it simple, far less chance of problems. Some people out there are running setups with huge amp draws using bullet connectors no problems.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?
